Cheats for Mystery Train Island

The latest island in Poptropica is called Mystery Train Island. You can read some of the information about it on the Poptropica info page. Mystery Island takes place on board a train bound for the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. You’ll meet many different characters on board the train, and one of them will be a criminal who commits a dastardly crime that threatens to cancel the entire fair! Someone has stolen Thomas Edison’s latest invention and it’s up to you to figure out whodunnit. The island became available for members only on September 9, 2011. Non-members will get access about one month later.

Written Walkthrough

When You Arrive on Mystery Train Island

First jump down from your blimp and then go to the left. You will see Thomas Edison (the famous inventor) trying to get his luggage on board the train. Help him out by completing a simple puzzle where you organize the luggage smallest to tallest from left to right. Then put the plank on top of the luggage so that you can push his chest up to the train car. He’ll be so happy that he’ll give you a train ticket to join him on board the train for the trip to Chicago. Cool! You get to see the World’s Fair.

Run to the right and click on the train door. It’s near the poster for the World’s Fair. You’re on your way.

Riding the Rails

The first thing you need to do once you’re aboard the train is to talk to all the famous passengers. Make sure you talk to them all, starting with the first guy you see. He invented the Ferris Wheel, which is going to be the star attraction of the Fair. After him, talk to Nikola Tesla, Susan B. Anthony, Erik Weisz, the reporter from the New York Times, Mark Twain, and Mlle. Moreau.

Now go into Thomas Edison’s cabin and click on him to talk. He’ll be really proud of his newest invention, which is a film projector. He’ll ask you to give it a try and when you do he leaves the room to go find the reporter. Then the train will go through a tunnel and the lights go out. When they come back on, the projector is missing. Someone stole it! Now you need to clear your name and find the real thief.

Unravel the Mystery of the Train

Now you need to talk to all the passengers and collect clues. When you get a new clue it will appear on the bottom of your screen in a special clue area when you are talking to other passengers.

The first thing to do is to talk to Thomas Edison and then then click on the film projector clue. Then click on the NY Times reporter and ask him about the same clue. He’ll tell you about a secret compartment in Mark Twain’s cabin.

Go into Mark Twain’s cabin and talk to him. He tries to convince you that he doesn’t have a secret compartment, but then you can find it by clicking on all the panels in the wall until you find a hollow one. It turns out that this is where he’s hiding his manuscript for his new novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and he says he didn’t want anyone to see it until he was finished.

Nerd Note: The Poptropica Creators kind of messed up here. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was first published in England in 1884 and then a few months later in 1885 in the United States. Mystery Train Island takes place in 1893, a full eight years later. So why would Mark Twain be hiding a copy of the manuscript and saying he hasn’t finished it yet?

OK, back to our regular walkthrough…after you find the manuscript it’s clear that Twain wasn’t the thief. The next thing that happens is that the train comes to a stop and everyone goes outside. Out here, talk to the reporter from the New York Times and he will tell you he heard someone running past his cabin and thinks there might be a clue outside his door.

Go back on the train and go to the car where the reporter is. Then walk to the left and click on the stains on the carpet in front of Thomas Edison’s cabin. They’re prune juice stains and they are a clue! Now go to the left and talk to the porter in the restuarant car about the prune juice. He’ll tell you he can’t reveal what his customers ordered and will throw the order sheet out of the back of the train. What a litterbug! But he leaves the pad behind. Pick it up and then use the pencil on it to rub over the bottom sheet, which will show that Nikola Tesla ordered prune juice!

Now go to the trunk in the luggage compartment and click on the green trunk in the middle. It has coal smudges on it and this is your next clue. Someone who doesn’t want you to solve the mystery will throw scissors at you. Yikes! Pick up the scissors and put them in your backpack.

Go to the coal man in the front of the train and confront him with the clue. He’ll say that he went to get a snack and you should talk to the porter. You can go back to the porter and he will confirm the coal man’s story.

Now return to the luggage car and this time, Mme. Moreau (the French lady from Le Monde) is standing next to the green chest. Talk to her and she’ll tell you to dress up as the porter and bring a drink to Tesla. Great idea! Go into the Porter closet and put on his spare set of clothes. Then go to Tesla’s cabin and knock on the door.

Tesla will let you in and ask you to serve him some prune juice. Click on the pitcher of juice on the dresser and serve him a glass. Keep pouring him glasses of juice until he leaves the bathroom. Then search his room when he leaves by clicking on everything you see. Right before he gets back, you’ll find a luggage key.
